Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Plastic and Reconstructive surgery is one of the most sought-after medical specialties in this century and has evolved continuously to meet the ever-changing demands of patients. While Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is largely divided into reconstructive and cosmetic sub-specialties, it has gradually widened its scope to deal with any area of the body from head to toe. It is a fascinating field particularly because it requires both innovative ideas and perseverance and passion.Since Professor Baek Bong-Su joined the department in March 1978, the history of the KNUH Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery has been filled with endeavors and contributions to the advancement of plastic surgery.The department performs about 2,000 procedures each year, along with follow-up care. It also has published 79 papers in domestic journals and 43 papers in the SCI and led activities at academic societies to cement its position as a leading plastic surgery expert in South Korea. KNUH’s Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery has been working to become a global department by building close relationships with other departments abroad.The department is committed to training medical college students, residents, and graduate students. We particularly help them experience as much patient care as possible in clinical practice, as well as in the classrooms, under our active involvement policy.
The department focuses particularly on basic research in plastic surgery in addition to clinical practice and education and ensures that all its efforts make a tremendous contribution to the advancement of international as well as Korean plastic surgery fields.
