Department of Laboratory Medicine
The Department of Laboratory Medicine performs appropriate tests on samples taken from the human body to help diagnose diseases and determining therapeutic effects.
The department carries out a vast range of tests, including tests of urine, cerebrospinal fluids, and bodily fluids, as well as analysis of elements in the blood. Furthermore, to diagnose infectious diseases, the department isolates and identifies various microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi, and isolates and identifies cancer cells.
The KNUH Blood Bank supplies blood to any place within the hospital where transfusion is required and performs related tests as well as blood donations, donations of blood components, and therapeutic leukapheresis.
The department has recently begun to conduct genetic tests to offer up-to-date genetic information related to diseases and helps patients through genetic consultations.
